“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes; truly, I say to you, he will gird himself and have them sit at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have been awake and would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Luke 12:32-40)
So, are you ready? Are you prepared for when Jesus does come back a second time? Because, He sure wants us to be ready, He warns us if we’re not ready, His Father isn’t going to have us sitting at His table.
Some might say, “Why doesn’t He give us some kind of hint to when He might be coming back? Doesn’t seem fair that we have no idea.” Well, that might be true, however, if we knew when He was coming how lazy would that make us? I’d say it would make us very lazy.
Imagine, if everyone knew exactly when Jesus was returning, wonder how many people would mess around and do all the things that might not be the best things to do in God’s eyes, and then ask for forgiveness so that then they could clean up their mess, just before He comes walking in the door.
Instead, Christ does not tell us when He will be coming back because He wants us to follow Him even when we can’t see Him, He wants us to do the right things for Him and His glory, and for others, every day, and not just before His entrance. He wants to make sure that we really mean it and that we’re truly sincere about our love for Him.
On top of that, we need the time to clean up our business, if we were to take a close look at our households I’m sure we’d find plenty of cobwebs that we’ve missed over time that need to be cleaned up before we would ever think of having the Son of man come walking in.
It also gives us time to gather other lost sheep that there still might be hope for. Because, part of our reason being here on this earth is to find and gather the other lost sheep and bring them back into the herd. Remember, heaven rejoices more over finding that one lost sheep than it does over the 99 that never strayed.
However, we need to be very careful thinking we have plenty of time to clean up our lives and then fall into Satan’s trap of procrastination, which will lead us to stumble and fall and then before we know it, time is up and He walks in and you have not prepared a single thing for Him to welcome Him back.
So, if you’re looking around and saying to yourself “He’ll never come back while I’m still on this earth.” You could be sealing your fate with those foolish thoughts. Because, even if you go before He returns, you still have to face Him once you have left this earthly plain and how are you going to answer Him when He asks you “Why were you not prepared for my return? Why did you not set a place for me at your table?” How are you going to answer that one?
This is why, no matter what, no matter what society tells you, no matter what friends might tell you, you can’t listen to them, you must listen to your heart and the truth that if you are not prepared for His return, there will not be a place set for you at His table. This is why it’s so important that we try our best to make a place for Him at our table as if we were expecting Him to knock on our front door tomorrow. Not a week, month, year, years from now, but as if you just got a text from Him saying “See you tomorrow first thing in the morning, hope you are ready!”
Look none of us are perfect and we never will be until we meet Him face to face when His glory engulfs us and purifies our souls in the manner in which they were meant to be. But, that’s not what’s important here, what’s important is that we are sincere in our attempts to reach perfection. Jesus appreciates each and every single little step that we take in the right direction and that’s towards Him, not towards the world, not towards our family and friends, but to Him and only Him, hopefully, along the way, we bring others along with us. Every little thing that we do that helps to glorify God is going to get us closer to being ready for His return. Remember, even small deeds of kindness, love, mercy, forgiveness, compassion and so on are huge in the eyes of our Father in heaven as long as it’s done in His name.
So, the time is now, to make sure that everything in our lives are in order and are focused on the prize and that prize is spending the rest of eternity with the one who first loved us and has never waivered in that love and never will.
