“Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrines of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, with instruction about ablutions, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt. For land which has drunk the rain that often falls upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned.” (Hebrews 6:1-8)

The last two verses are key here: “”For land which has drunk the rain that often falls upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned.” Look around you, is not America now cultivating mainly thorns and thistles compared to where she began? Have the people not turned from God?

In the 60’s and 70’s when polled, 95% of Americans claimed they believed in God. Fast forward to today and that 95% has dropped below 60% admitting they believe in God! So, my question is then, how can we expect God to continue to bless America when so many people hold Him in contempt instead of holding Him in the highest place of honor like we once did? How can we ever expect things to get better if we no longer honor Him as He should be honored?

It’s important that we understand that even though He may no longer wish to bless this place in which we live, it’s not because He does not love us, because He loves us more than we could ever imagine. But there comes a time when even the Father of us all has to put His foot down. Just because He’s God, doesn’t mean He is any different from a good, loving and caring earthly father who just wants the best for his children and when they continually disobey, he puts his foot down and says “No more!” And punishment then is handed down, but when your earthly father punished you, you still knew that he loved you, right? Well, it’s no different with our heavenly Father and there comes a point when He finally says “Have it your way and find out on your own, the hard way.” No different than your own earthly father would say in frustration. Because even God our Father knows that He cannot force His will upon us, we must willingly accept Him and if we continually show contempt and disobedience just like our own fathers He’ll throw up His hands and let us go out on our own and if we fall flat on our faces, so be it, it’s our fault and no one elses. But, the good news is this, if after we fall flat on our face, if we turn back to Him and beg Him for His help, He’ll be right there to help pick us up again.

However, right now, we find our country and so many in it doing nothing but cultivating thorns and thistles and that’s leading to a harvest of destructive and poisonous weeds that are choking the life out of all of us. It is even choking the life out of those of us who still truly believe, it’s taking away our joy because the weeds are overshadowing the beauty that God has so graciously blessed us with for so many years.

The solution isn’t going to be easy for we believers because it’s clearly becoming more difficult to be a Christian today in our own country, a place where once those looking for freedom to worship unobstructed use to find refuge, but now we are being told that we are the ones who are the problem, we are even considered to be a threat to so-called democracy. So the solution is going to take more prayer than we’ve ever done before, courage to stand in the face of adversity and refuse to take a knee to anyone but God, no matter what the consequences might be for that courage. Silence is no longer an option, tolerance is no longer an option, the only option left to us is the Truth, because Truth is the best weed killer there is.

If a lie can be told enough to where the people believe it to be the truth, then why can’t we use the Truth the same way? We can and we MUST!
