Lean On Him

“At that time Jesus declared, ‘I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.'” (Matthew 11:25-30)

In this Scripture we see how Jesus sets an example of showing gratitude to our Father in heaven by praying to Him. This is something Jesus did often, you’ll find all through the New Testament where Jesus goes off in solitude to be able to calm His soul down by praying to His Father.

It’s understandable for Him to constantly pray to God during His three year mission, after all, He knew what fate awaited Him in the end. Yet, even though His Father was asking Him to suffer more than any of us could ever imagine, He still expressed His gratitude to His Father.

Even though He knew all along what His fate was to be, and the heavy burden He would have to bear, He still held strong to His beliefs and was unwavering in all that He did while being under such pressure. And through it all, He opened His arms to all who believed in Him and take comfort in His arms and rest in His peace.

Even though His burden was not light, He tells His followers and us that His burden was/is light and His yoke was/is easy. Even though He would suffer, He wanted us all to know that His love for all of us outweighed all that He had to endure to save us from our own sin.

It’s important to remember that whatever heavy burdens we might carry on our shoulders, there is no reason to give up because Christ knows what we are going through because while He walked among us, He suffered everything mankind has suffered giving Him a true insight to what it’s like to be human. This is key to why our Lord and Savior has so much compassion for us beyond what any of us as mere humans could ever have. His compassion and deep love for us ensures for us the comfort that we might be seeking.

Another important point here is that along with His open arms to give us comfort and rest, He asks us to look at His ways but most importantly He simply requests that we learn from Him. He doesn’t demand it from us instead He gently nudges us in the right direction and He leaves the decision up to us, whether we want to lean on Him is completely our choice. So if you are struggling with something heavy today, why not stop trying to fight the battle alone, instead, lean on Him and let Him take away your burdens.
